#DIME Embroider-along Trapunto Seashell Table Runner
Hi everyone! As promised, here is the post with the instructions and link to the machine embroidery design files to make the runner. I want to thank Eileen Roche from Designs in Machine Embrodiery (DIME) magazine for graciously allowing me to share this with you. And a special thank you to Christine from Amelie Scott Designs who designed this beautiful embroidery pattern. I first learned about Amelie Scott Designs when I was experimenting using an embroidery machine to quilt my quilts. This was long before I took the plunge on my longarm. I have many of her quilting packs and I love them! Note: You will need a machine than uses hoops larger than 5×7 to make this runner. Those of you with hoops that are 4×4 or 5×7, don’t worry, we’ll do another Embroider-along just for you soon. 🙂
CORRECTION: The measurements in the .pdf are off and you need to use the measurements provided below.
CORRECTION: When you are ready to make the quilt sandwich, lay the backing fabric FACE DOWN.
1 – Fabric measurements — The fabric and Pellon measurements should be 6.5 x 8.5 and 2.5 x 6.5 inches.
2 – Download link — Click on the link below to download the zip file that contains the free embroidery files for our Sea Shell Table Runner.
Here are the free embroidery files (Permission has been received from Amelie Scott Designs to share these files with you free of charge):
The link download contains a ZIP file with the 3 embroidery files you will use. Most web browsers can use that just fine. Remember, after the file has downloaded, be sure to right click on it and choose Extract All from the menu. Otherwise the files won’t work.

CONGRATULATIONS on your anniversary , I was looking forward to make my first quilt , but I don’t have a solarios machine 🙁 I do have a Brother , The instructions as I don’ t ever have quilt , after read them for me are a Little confuse , have to wait to watch your videos on YouTube .

Understand. Your browser has that safety feature. But when you go to purchase the magazine you will be on a secure site.
Hi, my computer blocks me from entering creditcard card info says site not secure….is there any other way to get the 2yrs for 1 deal?
Try another browser…maybe Chrome or Firefox? Unfortunately, the link is http:// which is not secure. However, once you get past that link, it goes to https:// and you can proceed from there. I’m sorry it’s such a hassle. I’ll mention it to DIME. You’re not the only one. 🙁
I’m sorry but I just can’t get the download files to start the project. I have tried with Firefox and internet explorer. I have right clicked and there is no command to ‘Extract All’. After downloading I go to my “Downloads” folder and see the file, the extension is ‘file’.
I am confused. I’m sure I am doing something wrong but would love to do the embroider along with you.

I have a question on the shell table runner. I have never made a quilt so I thought the table runner would be a good place to start. I have been reading and rereading the directions. The section that explains adding the backing when ready to make a quilt sandwich say to take the backing fabric and lay it “face up” then add batting and shell runner. This is the step that is done prior to quilting the shells. My question is…should the backing fabric be face up???
I haven’t gotten to that point yet in my sample. I can see that being the case if it were a flip and turn finish, but this one calls for a binding. I’ll check it out when I get home.
I have another question. According to the directions under Fabric..it says to press on shape flex to the back of the background fabric (which would be the white fabric) and the 2.5 x 6.5 pastel fabric. Nothing is mentioned about adding Pellon to the pastel 6.5 x 8.5 fabric. I’m thinking that I should add shape-flex to all..the background (White fabric), the pastel squares and the pastel smaller rectangles….or is that all too much??? Boy oh boy….the directions are not clear and I’m in the middle of cutting!
Nope! Do not put shape flex on the larger colored squares. They will have batting behind them. You can see it in Part 2 and 3 on YouTube. I’m about to publish Part 3 this evening, 12 Jul 19.
You are right! Lay the backing fabric FACE DOWN if you are doing the binding method for finishing. Good catch! Thank you for brining this to my attention. I talked about it in Pt 3. Thanks!

This is probably a silly question, but here goes. I am gathering the needed supplies to do the seashell runner and I was wondering why you had to use the water soluble stabilizer if you just cut it all away. Can you use another kind of stabilizer as I live in a very rural area and some of the items are hard to get? I love watching your tutorials on the embroidery machine as I have a Brother machine. It is a VM5100 Dream Creator XE and I have been intimidated by this machine since day 1. The manual alone scares me. LOL. But watching you has made me just get in there and do it. Thank you.
