#MGQS Rock My State Free Standing Lace & Applique, the Stitchuation Room, 6/22/26
Well, what a great way to start a week, visiting with Becky, focusing on the new Rock My State designs from My Girlfriend’s Quilt Shop. These are so clever. I can imagine matching earrings, or two earrings from two states, because I grew up in one, and have lived in another for years. (6:36)
Does bobbin winding intimidate you? Doing it correctly often eludes me. Becky recommends inserting the thread from the inside through the round hole and securing it. The bobbin winds the thread perfectly flat. (23:11) Remember too, a clean bobbin area makes a happy machine, and a happy stitcher.
Preparations are underway for the OESD Freestanding Quilt Block Pumpkins project, starting August 4th. Are you joining us? Starting on August 4, Becky will lead a step by step sew-along for OESD Freestanding Quilt Pumpkins! The pumpkins are adorable and perfect for the fall season, from late August through November! What a beautiful blending of quilt designs and free-standing embroidery.
OESD Freestanding Quilt Pumpkins
To ensure the pumpkins have the correct structure and stability, Becky highlights specific supplies required for the project. (7:12).
Material List for Freestanding Pumpkins
- Stabilizers: all available from OESD:
- Aqua Mesh: A wash-away mesh stabilizer that provides the pumpkins with their essential shape
- Badge Master: A clear, heavy-duty wash-away film used for freestanding lace and applique, which adds necessary stiffness.
- Stable Stick: A medium-weight cutaway stabilizer with a light adhesive coating
- Essential Tools:
- Alligator Clamps: Used to pull buttons through the assembly holes
- Button Clips: Used to hold the panels securely together while maneuvering
- Perfect Punch Tool & Mini Mat: Required to create precise holes in the panels for assembly without damaging your work surface
Here’s another option for ALL of the supplies listed:
Freestanding “I Want it All Bundle” The bundle includes everything you need to create free standing lace! It seems like a LOT of supplies, but they will ensure success and we will be so happy with the outcomes, that we will all be making more free-standing lace. This is what I chose, as I want to use the best possible tools and supplies.
Happy Anniversary! The Stitchuation Room will be celebrating its 3rd anniversary on August 28th with a giveaway event. (34:11). We are so happy for Becky, and honestly, for us viewers too!
Hoop Master Mighty Hoop 14×14, #DBJJ Bowl Cozy, Happy Birthday Dotty! The Stitchuation Room, 6/23/26
Today it’s bowl cozies, an essential tool in everyone’s kitchen cabinet. Becky is making Bowl Cozy Number 1 from the Designs by Juju collection (4:02).
But do check out the website, because the cozies are SEW stinkin’ cute!
Important to remember!
Microwave Safety: Use only 100% cotton fabric and 100% cotton or cotton/wool batting (10:34).
Avoid using Insul-Bright, as it contains a metallic layer that is not microwave-safe (10:52).
Thread Selection: Stick to high-quality 40-weight polyester or cotton thread. (11:52) Do not use metallic threads.
Fabric Choice: While light colors look clean, busy or patterned fabrics are often more practical because spills happen! (9:17).
Becky recommends the Brother PR10 – 14×14″ Flat Mighty Hoop. If Becky uses it (and she does, daily) you can be sure it’s great.
Almost done!
Add these to a basket with dried soup mix and a biscuit mix, a couple of soup bowls, or a soup ladle and Presto! A gift for a family member, teacher, or stitchy friend. Just a suggestion: add directions for use, because I noticed someone in my family heating the soup and THEN putting it in the cozy. If they know how to actually use it, they will see how ingenious YOU are! And they are on sale!
Becky gives lots of tips and trips, and trade secrets about hooping, trimming, and assembly along the way. What tip did you find the most useful?

#MGQS Mini Quilt Trio – Stars & Stripes & Summer Vibes Pt 2, The Stitchuation Room, 6/26/26
Christmas comes early for stitchers! Becky tells us about the beautiful 12 Days of Christmas fabric panel designed by Nancy Halverson for Bennerex (5:16). This a sweet blending of Victorian and Modern design, and is a quick fix for gifting or to grace your own home.
Becky will trim the red border, leave the green border, and add her own coordinating borders (5:56). Stay tuned to see the finished project this summer or fall.
The panel is available at the Fat Quarter Shop, which is currently running a 20% off site-wide sale (4:24). Jump onboard if you want to make one. There’s a limited number available, so don’t delay.

Becky completed the first mini quilt of the trio and explains that today’s focus is on cutting the applique pieces for the “hot dog” mini quilt (2:02). Becky has a challenge and again we see her at her best, and we watch her live out the expression “Improvise, Adapt, Overcome! It’s all about fabric foibles, and hot dog glitches. This project is fantastic for those of us that need a quick project that’s fabulous for the 250th birthday of the USA.
Have a great weekend! Don’t look now, but July Fourth is right around the corner!
