Monday Weekend Stitching Recap, Things Above Quilt Kit, new products on the market
I found a new quilt I absolutely had to make for my son who is a pastor in Colorado Springs. The pattern is called Firm Foundation and the fabric is called Things Above. The panel to make up the body of the church blocks is hard to come by unless you can get a kit, but any block that finishes at 10.5″ will work as a suitable sub. I think this will look amazing hanging either in their home or the church. If you can’t get the exact panel to make the church blocks, consider using other scripture panels or using an embroidery machine to create your own 10.5 blocks with the scripture verses on them.

We did an unboxing of the Fat Quarter Shop’s Cupid box, and the contents are so fun! There’s a cute heart shaped magnetic pin tray, because who can’t use another pin tray in our sewing space? The chocolate and sweets on these fabrics are calorie free but rich in taste and inspiration.
There’s a special coupon that is unique to each box, and this one has a free pink rotary cutter case with the purchase of $40 or more and a QR code for a free quilt pattern. I like the quilt patterns that they put in here because generally they don’t need a whole lot of other fabric.

This box has a mini layer cake which is sweet and calorie free which by itself is almost $30.00 in value. Those conversation heart candies that always call my name are on the woven tags. Clever!

Each box in the subscription is thoughtfully put together with Notions and patterns for each season. The Liberty box in July, Spooky box in October, and the Jolly Box in December to name a few. Check them out at the Fat Quarter Shop. There’s a party in every box. While you are on the Fat Quarter Shop site browse through their offerings of kits, notions, and really just about anything you need for quilting, including so many tutorials
Brightly Sampler Quilt, Week 9, the Kaleidoscope Block, 2/10/25
I was live again live again at 9AM to make up another block in The Brightly Sampler Quilt I’m doing as a QAL.

Our Brightly Sampler QAL is on week 9, which is the kaleidoscope block. I showed al of the blocks I have made so far. I am thoroughly enjoying the variety of blocks in this pattern.
I am using Strawberry Lemonade by Sherry and Chelsea fabric for the quilt, and making a companion quilt because even a quilt needs a cozy companion. For the companion, I am using the fabric line from Farmstead by Farmstead Fat Quarter Bundle Stacy Iest Hsu for Moda Fabrics

I have so many projects going but my Yazzii bags are keeping me orderly. If you want your own Yazzii Bags, use my link and code PTWT10 for 10% off!

To Run or not to Run? If you are uncertain if your fabric needs pre-washing, we got into a deep discussion about this. Lots of great intel on how solids and prints differ and here’s a secret… Did you know you can set color in fabric just like dying an Easter Egg? Use a cool sink with 1 cup of vinegar and let the fabric soak about an hour. I highly recommend this for quilts you know will be washed (vs. a wall hanging) and they have reds, navy, or black fabrics in them. Then rinse until the water runs clear, roll up inside of a beach towel to remove excess water and hang to dry. Works like a charm! As I always say, “Know your textiles!”
Along that line, if you have a quilt that has been a victim of bleeding dyes, spray the offended fabric with Dawn Powerwash, let sit for 15-20 minutes and then wash with Shout Color Catchers. Even if the quilt has already been through the dryer, this can help immensely. Is there anything Dawn Powerwash can’t do???
Tuesday: From a Pile of T-Shirts to a Cozy T-Shirt Quilt! Have you ever made a T-shirt quilt? There are lots of tips and tricks today on how to make these quilts practical and memorable.
I made the one below for my hubby Keith. Keeping this Harley Quilt a surprise was hard, but I managed it. He was delighted with it, and so was I! Prepping the fabric before the cutting and quilting process is critical. I shared lots of information about techniques and fabrics that I paired them with. I’m making one for a friend whose husband recently passed away. I chose binding and backing colors that I think will look great in her home décor. I’m excited to begin, and hope the final product is one that is full of comforting memories.

I showed the new fabric I purchased at my local quilt shop (LQS). I also found some delightful fat quarters I couldn’t resist called Quaint Cottage.

If you like my sewing and quilting t-shirts I wear everyday, check out the links below my videos. The ones from “Bee Inspired Tees” are 15% off on all merchandise, no coupon needed! The others are from AllieM Tees.
Wednesday: 2/12/25Tutorial to make Two at a time Quarter Square Triangles.
Lots of T’s in today’s video! Tips, Tricks, Timesavers, and Things Above (the quilt!). I show you how I save time ironing, and cutting fabric, and how to make two quarter-square triangles at a time. Time saved is time gained for other things.
Rulers are a secret weapon, so seriously consider getting the ones I mentioned in the tutorial:

Thursday: Designs By JuJu Happy Easter Mug Rug We made a DBJJ Happy Easter ITH Mug Rug and I gave a step by step tutorial to set up the Brother PR1055 Multi-needle. This is an adorable little gift worthy mug rug (well all JuJu’s designs are gift worthy) and although I made it on a multi-needle, the ITH (In The Hoop) project works great with single needle machines.

Friday: On the road in the motorhome and Lori Holt’s Vintage Christmas. On the Road with Gypsy Again, and Still Sewing.
I introduced my Gypsy (my name for my traveling sewing machine), offered some tips for organizing your projects for travel such as EZ Stax available in my Amazon store.

They fit into the Yazzii Block Bag to hold EZStax – perfectly, so even traveling in a motorhome the pieces stay put!

I brought along my finished blocks to tell you about. I have wanted to do this quilt for years and I am loving it, even the few tiny pieces! Lots of tips are here for being the boss of your machine!
Do catch me live some Friday, as I have a giveaway every Friday!
Friday was Valentine’s Day! I hope your day was filled with love, of family, friends and stitching!

Thanks for a great re-cap of the week. Life is pretty hectic at the moment and watching the lives have been difficult. For me they start at 6AM, which is when I’m helping to get my granddaughters ready for school. They and my son and DIL are living with us while their new house is getting built. It’s almost done. 🙂
Love this week in review!
