Liberty of London With Sulky

I had the fabulous opportunity to visit London England with Sulky for a tour of Jolly old England. One of the stops on the tour was the famed Liberty of London. I have seen Liberty of London fabrics before, but did not realize that they come from a shop that could be considered a department store in London England. Here is the front of the store! I certainly wasn’t expecting this! It is the building with the classic black trim.

The store has four floors with everything from women’s wear to household goods. The third floor contained all of their fabrics.

We hopped into a very cool elevator to get up to the third-floor.

While they had an extensive selection of garment fabrics, I was all about the quilting cottons. The price of the quilting cotton was about £24.95 per meter. They had a 50 cm minimum cut, which is what I got for most of my cuts which comes out to about $12 for a half yard. They were having a 20% off sale for the holidays so I was sure to jump on that!

While the number of bolts is not what I would expect in a quilt store in the USA, they had a little bit of everything for all types of stitchers. here is just a sampling of the sewing baskets they had on hand. They were displayed all around the store.

They put their fat quarters in rolled up bundles.

There was a nice selection of sewing books.

What sewing store wouldn’t be complete without patterns for stuffed animals?

They had several patterns out for appliqué projects.

They had some very interesting kits for hand embroidery. Everybody from Shakespeare to David Bowie!

I’ve seen these patterns before in my travels on blogs, and they look like mostly from independent pattern makers. I didn’t see any of what we would find in Hobby Lobby. Then they had accessories of every shape and kind I would have never expected to find.

I’m so glad I got an opportunity to visit this unique and fabulous store!
