Liberty of London With Sulky
I had the fabulous opportunity to visit London England with Sulky for a tour of Jolly old England. One of the stops on the tour was the famed Liberty of London. I have seen Liberty of London fabrics before, but did not realize that they come from a shop that could be considered a department store in London England. Here is the front of the store! I certainly wasn’t expecting this! It is the building with the classic black trim.

The store has four floors with everything from women’s wear to household goods. The third floor contained all of their fabrics.
We hopped into a very cool elevator to get up to the third-floor.

While they had an extensive selection of garment fabrics, I was all about the quilting cottons. The price of the quilting cotton was about £24.95 per meter. They had a 50 cm minimum cut, which is what I got for most of my cuts which comes out to about $12 for a half yard. They were having a 20% off sale for the holidays so I was sure to jump on that!

While the number of bolts is not what I would expect in a quilt store in the USA, they had a little bit of everything for all types of stitchers. here is just a sampling of the sewing baskets they had on hand. They were displayed all around the store.

They put their fat quarters in rolled up bundles.

Here’s a little bit of yarn and kits.

There was a nice selection of sewing books.

What sewing store wouldn’t be complete without patterns for stuffed animals?

They had several patterns out for appliqué projects.

They had some very interesting kits for hand embroidery. Everybody from Shakespeare to David Bowie!

I’ve seen these patterns before in my travels on blogs, and they look like mostly from independent pattern makers. I didn’t see any of what we would find in Hobby Lobby. Then they had accessories of every shape and kind I would have never expected to find.

I’m so glad I got an opportunity to visit this unique and fabulous store!

That looks like a wonderful store to visit. Definitely adding to my bucket list. Thanks for sharing.
Liberty of London reminds me of our department stores from the 50’s & 60’s.
It looks to be very neat and tidy! What fun. Can’t wait to hear about your trip!
Becky, What an amazing place,

I’ve visited there, too, when we lived in England for 2 years. I still have fabric I bought there! Love the architecture and smell of that store!

Shopping for fabric or yarn in the UK is so much fun. Enjoy your time.
What a wonderful opportunity! Beautiful store. This was USA many years ago. Those days are sadly gone. Can’t wait for the first Stitchuation Room upon your return to ‘the states’.
Becky, thank you for these great pictures! I so enjoyed seeing this store. I’m glad you are having fun.
Very fun to see! I have used a few Liberty of London fabrics when I did heirloom sewing for my granddaughters. Alas, they are all way too old for that now. I am hoping to make some dresses and put them away for someday great-granddaughters.
Love seeing your photos. I’m so happy you got to go on this trip of a lifetime. Thanks for taking time to share.
So different, yet same. I wonder how long you got to wander. It takes me awhile to grasp all the minutia in a new store experience. Happy travels! from Amarillo, Texas

I enjoyed this peek into your tour. Thanks for sharing!
Sigh,
I would LOVE to visit Liberty!! Don’t know if you (or anyone else) is/was aware, but JoAnn Fabrics is/was carrying Liberty fabrics (at least the store near me). I don’t frequent them much anymore, but when I was there a couple of weeks ago, it looked like they were closing out the Liberty Fabrics (sad). Such gorgeous fabric!
