A Horse Probiotic to Ease Itchy Dogs
“What does Becky give her dog to stop the itching?”
I get asked this question so often, I decided to make a blog post about it so that I can easily direct inquiring minds here to my blog where they can get product and dosage info. DISCLAIMER: This is my personal observation and experience. I’m not a vet nor am I giving medical advice. Please check with your vet prior to administering to your pet. Also, this is not an affiliated sales post. I make no commissions from ImmuBiome for sharing their product information or any subsequent sales.
The back story. I came to know about this product from a viewer on my YouTube channel, Power Tools With Thread. Several years ago during a livestream video, I was lamenting about our new-to-us rescue dog, Frito, who was so itchy. I’d never experienced a pet who constantly scratched and chewed herself until she bled or whined. Poor baby. This viewer was actually in England and said that she had an itchy horse.

Her vet recommended this probiotic called Immune by a company named ImmuBiome headquartered in Austin, Texas. Just right up the road from me! The product worked wonders for her horse. She then went on to say that sometime later she inherited a dog who was also itchy and the same vet recommended she try the Immune on her dog before using prescribed steroids that can, according to her vet, shorten a dog’s life by suppressing their immune system to other ailments. She thought it couldn’t hurt to try and she was so impressed with the results. She said she was so grateful they also sold in the UK.

Dosage Amounts:
First I wrote to the company to ask if it was safe for use on dogs. They replied right away that yes, it was actually human grade and could be administered to dogs. Their website mentions dosage for animals that weigh 1,000 lbs or more so I also asked about dosage amounts for dogs. They said to start with 1/4 tsp per 10 lbs twice a day. If, after a week, you don’t see any digestive issues, increase the dosage by 1/4 tsp twice a day until itching subsides. You should see a noticeable difference within a month.
Our Frito is 40 lbs and she gets 1 tsp or so twice a day combined on her kibble. She’s literally a different dog and she showed signs of improvement within two weeks. Just look at that happy face! I joined their subscription for regular shipments which saves me a little money and makes sure that Frito is always itchy free. We made the mistake of forgetting her supplement when we went on a road trip once and she started being itchy again after 4-5 days. I ordered some to be delivered to our next stop. The overnight shipping was steep that time but it was worth it for our baby.

So I hope that helps! Please leave a comment if you’ve used it and what your experience was. I’d love to know!
